The TSP was established in 1995. It is a professional association that includes those trained in adult psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychiatry and systemic and family psychotherapy as well as other trained professionals who have completed an appropriate psychodynamic or systemic training programme. The great majority of TSP members contribute to the development of mental health services in the NHS and the public sector. Some work abroad. The TSP aims to contribute to the continuing professional development of its members, and also produces for the members of the Society an online membership Register.
Individual practitioners are eligible for membership of the TSP through qualifying as a member of one of the Tavistock Society's four Divisions. These are:
